1. Product Description
A carriage bolt is a type of threaded fastener designed to be used with wood, although specialized versions can be used to fasten metal components. Also known as plow bolts or coach bolts , carriage bolts can be found in many hardware stores in an assortment of lengths, diameters, and thread pitches. They are usually made from various types of steel for strength and durability, though other materials can be used to make them as well.
Carriage bolts are pushed into a hole the same size as the shank and then hammered in the rest of the way, where the square shoulder locks it firmly in place.A carriage bolt has a square shoulder under a rounded head which resists turning when the nut is tightened or removed. They are good for wood-to-wood connections when the head may not be accessible for tightening. They may be used in the construction of docks, swing sets and decks as well as other surfaces where a smooth finish is needed. A bolts consisting of a head and a screw (with a threaded cylinder) are fastened to the nut and are used to fasten the connection of two parts with through holes.
